Family and domestic violence remains the leading cause of homelessness. It’s also the cause of death for one woman on average each week—an alarming statistic that cannot be ignored.
In 20016, 37% of women seeking support from specialist homelessness services reported they were escaping violence. In the last year we supported more than 8,700 women and children experiencing family and domestic violence. Responses to these issues are complex and require strong commitment, leadership and fairness from all levels of government and the community to end entrenched poverty and persistent disadvantage.
On behalf of our community and those who so faithfully support us, The Salvation Army is privileged to be able to help make a difference for others that can and does lead to real life transformation.
