Giving is a feel-good thing. You can help spread that good feeling around by getting your school involved and become a Hero for Hope!
Every year, the Salvos helps more than 1 million people struggling to get by and we need your help to keep our programs running. We work in areas of greatest need and our programs support people experiencing homelessness, family violence, financial stress, unemployment and addiction.
Becoming a Hero for Hope is your chance to help make a difference in the lives of people struggling to get by. Every dollar your school raises goes a long way to give hope where it’s needed most.
So what’s the best way to be a Hero for Hope? Below are four easy steps to help get you started:
1. Get approval
Make sure you check with your teacher or principal that it is ok for you to host a fundraising event at school. Run your ideas past them and ask them for any advice and if they can help you pick a date that fits within the school calendar.
Stuck for fundraising ideas? Here are a few simple ideas to get you started:
Salvos Schools Red Day. Get everyone in your school to dress up in their favourite red clothes for the day and donate a gold coin. Get your tuck shop to sell red food for the day – think strawberries, watermelon, red velvet cupcakes and anything else you can think of with the profits going to the Salvos
Cake Sale: Why not get a few friends together and bake some cakes. You can sell each slice during recess or lunch.
Sleep Out: Be a bit adventurous and get your school to hold an outdoor sleepover and charge people to sleep out. No outdoor space or not enough tents? Try holding the sleepover in your school library or hall instead and turn it into a movie night.
2. Set up your online fundraising page
Register for your own Heroes for Hope fundraising page. Here you can tell others why you are fundraising, add photos and set a target for how much you want to raise.
3. Plan and prepare
Once a date, activity and fundraising page have been set up, it’s time to start planning. You might want to pick a theme for the day, organise a speaker (we can help you get in touch with someone to talk about the work of the Salvos) or decide on decorations to promote your event. We have some posters that you can download for free. The most important thing is to have fun and get creative! Check out our tips and resources.
4. Spread the word
Ask your teachers, family and friends to support your event! Share your fundraising page by email or facebook and ask people to sponsor you. Don’t forget to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has supported you along the way!
